Download the right Manjaro image

For an x86-64-compatible Intel or AMD PC, start at Manjaro’s official page, choose an edition and verify the downloaded file before preparing USB media. The button above opens the project website; distrib.wiki does not host installation images.

Manjaro already installed? A new ISO normally does not require reinstalling. The project uses a rolling-release model; ISOs are snapshots intended, among other things, for fresh installations. For an existing system, read the maintenance section of our Manjaro profile.

1. Which edition and architecture should you download?

The official x86 download page distinguishes images provided by the Manjaro team from community images. The three official editions are KDE Plasma, Xfce and GNOME. For a first trial, choose the interface you want to explore; inclusion in this list does not guarantee hardware compatibility.

Choose your starting point before downloading.

You want a different way to organise workGNOME’s activities and workspaces.
You use an ARM deviceManjaro ARM images for the relevant hardware, with their own instructions.

The Download Manjaro documentation states that 32-bit systems are unsupported. Check the processor model, not just the installed Windows version. An x86-64 image cannot be used as an ARM image. Test images are for development trials; for your everyday computer, start with the stable images offered by the project.

Keep the full filename: edition, version and other identifiers help locate the matching checksum and signature. Avoid mixing an ISO with another edition or release’s verification files.

2. Check the download before creating USB media

Obtain the checksum supplied with your image and use the same algorithm to calculate its local hash. Manjaro documents ISO integrity verification. A different hash means you must not use that file for installation.

In the folder containing the ISO, replace exact-image-name.iso with the actual filename. These examples apply to a published SHA256 hash.

On Linux

sha256sum "exact-image-name.iso"

On Windows, in PowerShell

Get-FileHash -LiteralPath ".\exact-image-name.iso" -Algorithm SHA256

Compare the complete value with the official reference. If the project provides SHA512 for that ISO, use sha512sum on Linux or -Algorithm SHA512 in PowerShell. Microsoft documents Get-FileHash algorithms.

Integrity and provenance are separate checks. A checksum alone does not identify an image’s author. The official GPG verification procedure uses the ISO, its .sig signature and project keys. Also verify the signing key’s identity and fingerprint against Manjaro’s information; do not accept a key solely because its name looks correct.

If a checksum differs, first ensure files belong to the same release, then download again from the official source. If signature verification fails or the key remains unknown, resolve that before continuing.

3. Prepare bootable USB media

For conventional image writing, simply copying an ISO to USB is insufficient. Use an image-writing tool, as explained in the Manjaro media-creation documentation. Choose a drive with capacity suitable for the downloaded image.

Writing erases the selected media. Copy USB files elsewhere first, then check its name and capacity. Disconnect unnecessary external drives to reduce the risk of choosing the wrong disk.

balenaEtcher provides a graphical method on Windows, Linux and macOS. Obtain it from its official website, then:

  1. Select the verified Manjaro ISO.
  2. Select the target USB drive, carefully checking the device shown.
  3. Start writing, wait for completion and validation, then eject properly.

The tool’s write validation complements verification of the downloaded file; it does not replace checking provenance. For a compatible virtual-machine trial, attach the ISO as a virtual optical drive; USB media is unnecessary.

4. Try before installing

Reboot and select USB in your computer’s boot menu. The key depends on the manufacturer; consult its documentation. If booting is refused, check media, architecture and the Manjaro UEFI guide before changing firmware settings.

In the trial session, check Wi-Fi, audio, microphone, webcam, suspend and external displays. Open copies of documents. Our hardware and software checklist helps prepare the trial; a USB session is not a benchmark of a disk installation.

Before opening the installer, keep an independent data backup. If retaining Windows or another system, prepare partitioning and recovery methods. At the summary screen, check the disk and partitions to be changed: do not select complete erasure if you want to retain the current system.

For desktops, repositories and post-installation updates, return to the Manjaro profile. This page describes documentation-based preparation; no installation test or hardware result is claimed.
