Before downloading ReactOS
The button above leads to the official download page. On 3 October 2026, it offered ReactOS 0.4.16. This independent system aims for Windows compatibility and remains in alpha: prepare a test environment without important data.
One image for trying or installing
Since release 0.4.16 on 29 August 2026, the main image combines LiveCD and BootCD functions. For this version, you no longer need to choose between those two separate downloads.
- Obtain the release image from the official website, then read the project’s instructions for your chosen environment.
- Choose the temporary trial in the boot menu to explore without installing. This live environment resets after rebooting.
- Install only on dedicated media. The live environment also lets you launch the installer; a text-mode installation option remains available.
Nightly development builds may contain new features and additional regressions. For a first look, start with the identified release image above.
A published release is not necessarily a stable system. The project recommends a virtual machine or a computer without important data. Do not entrust your only copy of useful files to this trial.
