Linux Mint 27, Adrien announced: one release a year, illustrated by a calendar and mint leaves.

Linux Mint is preparing a change to its release schedule and numbering. For users, the key is to follow the support timetable for their installed version without mistaking a development announcement for an invitation to upgrade immediately.

Key points

Linux Mint 27 “Adrien” has been announced for Christmas 2026. This is a planned release: when the original article was checked on 14 October, the official download page still offered Linux Mint 22.3.

What Linux Mint announced

In its update published on 13 October 2026, the team announced annual releases without intermediate point releases. The next version will be Linux Mint 27 “Adrien”, followed by 28 and 29. Its planned base is Ubuntu 26.04, with at least Cinnamon, Xfce and MATE editions.

The team stresses that these features are still in development. Christmas is an announced target; upgrade instructions will need to be checked when they are published.

What this means for your computer

A future version number does not describe the condition of your installation. When considering an upgrade, check your version’s support status, essential applications and the project’s upgrade guidance. Moving to annual releases does not, by itself, justify reinstalling.

The official download page offered Linux Mint 22.3 at the time of the original report. To compare desktops or find project resources, see our Linux Mint profile.

What to do while you wait

  • Already using Mint: keep your backups current and continue installing updates for your version. Wait for an official upgrade procedure that applies to your starting version.
  • New to Linux: start with an available release from the official website and check your hardware. Our Mint download guide explains the image checks.
  • Interested in testing upcoming features: use a separate test environment and check the exact status of the image being offered.

Before changing operating systems, the software checklist helps identify what matters to you: documents, work applications, peripherals and games.
