Fedora 45: go-ahead for a 3 November release
English edition published on .

Fedora 45 received the go-ahead for release on 3 November 2026. The decision was made on 29 October after two October delays. When this report was updated on 1 November, the official Workstation download page still offered Fedora 44: approval to release is distinct from the new release actually being available.
The official 29 October meeting log confirms a “GO” for RC-1.4. The teams approved that candidate for 3 November. For an everyday installation, wait for the release announcement and final images on the official pages.
The first postponement, on 15 October, followed the absence of a suitable final candidate. A further NO-GO on 22 October moved the target to 3 November. This article retains those steps to explain the changing timetable.
Go-ahead on 29 October, release planned for 3 November
- 15 October: first NO-GO because a suitable final candidate was not available; the target moved to 27 October.
- 22 October: another NO-GO after examining RC-1.2; the release was postponed again.
- 29 October: RC-1.4 received release approval at the Go/No-Go meeting.
- 3 November: the release date chosen following approval; the announcement and final downloads still need to be checked on the day.
When planning an installation, wait for the release announcement and check both the number and status of the image offered. A Beta or development image does not become a final release simply because a planned date has arrived.
What to do in your situation
You already use Fedora 44 every day
Continue your usual updates and prepare your backup. We recommend waiting for the stable release before considering an upgrade of your main computer. Approval of a candidate does not justify replacing your current system with a test image. Use the time to list your applications, extensions and additional repositories and check their compatibility with the upcoming version.
You need to install Fedora now
The official Workstation download page, checked on 1 November, displayed Fedora 44 and separated beta downloads. Check the page for its current release, select an image for your hardware and verify it before preparing installation media. Our Fedora download guide covers these checks and creating a USB drive.
You want to explore changes and help test
Use the beta on a test computer or a virtual machine that you can reinstall. Keep important documents elsewhere. A virtual test helps you explore the interface and applications but does not validate Wi-Fi, suspend or graphics hardware on your physical computer.
A beta available since September, with changes to examine
The official announcement of 15 September introduces Fedora 45 Beta and several changes. Depending on your work, consider:
- Package signatures: the project announced valid signatures as a default requirement before installation. If you use packages from additional sources, check their compatibility before upgrading.
- Secret management: oo7 was announced to bring desktop secret services together. Applications that store credentials belong on your test checklist.
- Atomic desktops: the announcement describes initial Anaconda WebUI installation flows for these variants. Our Fedora Silverblue profile introduces this approach.
These points describe the announced pre-release. They are neither tests performed by distrib.wiki nor a guarantee for your hardware. Refer to the final release notes when that version is released.
Three useful preparations before release
- Identify your edition and requirements: read the Fedora profile and list essential applications.
- Plan how to return to your current environment: back up documents to independent media, check that you can read them and keep recovery tools available.
- Set aside time for testing: after release, check applications, networking, audio and peripherals before deciding to upgrade. The software checklist can help you prepare.
